Liquid crystal (LC) medium based on a mixture of polar compounds with positive dielectric anisotropy contains p-bis(2-(trans-4-cyclohexyl-cyclohexyl)-ethynyl)-benzene, -pyridine, -pyridazine, -pyrimidine or -pyrazine or 1,4-bis(trans-4-cyclohexyl-cyclohexyl)-buta-1,4-diyne compound(s) (I).
