The roof (1), endwalls (3) and possibly also the base and/or crosswall elements determining the width of the body can be varied in width and consist of e.g. sidewalls (2) unaffected by cab width but also capable of serving as standard assemblies for all cab widths. The width-variable components have adaptor zones which can taper or widen the components concerned by shortening or lengthening the adaptor zones. The wagon body can be fitted in end cabs within the cab limits to meet all technical requirements but without changing the actual body width. The vehicle body is self-supporting in service.
