Filtration of flocculated water in a filter-press modified for hydrostatic filtration as a first stage to pressure dewatering

At least one organic polymeric flocculating material is used in the clarification. The solids concentration in the filter-press is at least 0.3 m<3>/m<2> filtration area/hour. The press is modified to allow hydrostatic filtration at a rate not exceeding 1 m/second. A pressure between 10 and 20 bar is used in the second stage dewatering. Chamber presses or membrane presses can be used.
