PURPOSE: A method for maintaining the alarming state of a system is provided to decide the alarming state of the entire system by using a seriousness counter for alarming list and alarm without detecting the alarming state for entire managed objects in case of generation of alarm and release of alarm. CONSTITUTION: When the release of alarm is registered(701) from a network element, the cause of alarm is detected(702) from the alarming list of corresponding managed object for checking(703) if the alarm for the release is generated in the past. If the alarm for the registered cause is absent, the release is ignored. If the alarm for the registered cause is existed, a seriousness for the corresponding cause is obtained(704) for deleting(705) the alarm for the release from the alarm list of the managed object. Then, the counter of the corresponding seriousness is reduced(706) for one degree. If the value of the counter having critical seriousness is not zero, the alarming state of the system becomes(707) critical. If the value of the counter having critical seriousness is zero while the value of the counter in major is not zero, the alarming state of the system becomes(708) major. If the value of the counter having critical seriousness while having zero for the value of major counter and not zero for the value of minor counter, the alarming state of the system becomes(709) miner. If the values of the critical, major, and minor counters are zero while the value of warning counter is not zero, the alarming state of the system becomes(710) warning. If the values of the critical, major, minor, and warning are zero, the system contains no alarm for the alarming state of the system to be(711) cleared state. Therefore, the alarming state of the system is recognized in a short time by using the alarming counter per seriousness and the alarming list per managed object while deciding the alarming state of the whole system.
