PURPOSE: An ATU-C(ADSL Transceiver Unit) is provided to optimize electricity consumption of a device by making power supplied to only a modem allocated to the service for a subscriber. CONSTITUTION: If power is fed to an ATU-C(18), a microprocessor(20) performs basic initializing operation by the program stored in a ROM(22). The microprocessor prevents the input of power to a modem(32) by making off a power supply switch(40), and finishes basic initialization. Thereafter the microprocessor reports the initialization of the corresponding ATC-U to a maintenance management device(12) via an interface(26) for backplane maintenance, and inquires about of which one among modems in the ATU-C is really allocated to a subscriber. The maintenance management device receiving the inquiry of the ATU-C reports of which modem offers a service right by being allocated to a subscriber. The microprocessor of the ATU-C receiving the report from the maintenance management device makes the modem(32) allocated to a subscriber input with power by driving the power supply switch.
