PURPOSE: A substrate of LCD and manufacturing method thereof reduce the number of mask processes and the step coverage of a pixel electrode, thereby minimizing the open defect of the pixel electrode. CONSTITUTION: In the first substrate, the first end portion(F) of a gate insulator layer(190), the first end portion(E) of a semiconductor layer(191) and the first end portion(D) of a data bus line(170) form the same end portion. The first end portion(A) of a passivation layer(195) is arranged inside the data bus line(170) region. The second end portion(B) of the passivation layer(195) and the second end portion(C) of the semiconductor layer(190) form the same end portion. One end portion of a transparent conductive layer(240) comes in contact with a metal layer(173) for storage capacitance electrode inside a gate bus region(160), and the other end portion thereof is formed through the first end portion(A) of the passivation layer(195).
