A cell electrolyses distilled water within a housing consisting of a number of sections. A solid electrolyte membrane (H) is in direct contact with an electrode (G,J) made of a porous material. The membrane (H) separates the cathode chamber from the anode chamber. One or both of the electrodes (G,J) is subjected to pressure forcing it against the membrane (H). The novelty is that the pressure is exerted by a bolt (N) with a rounded head (N1) directed centrally against the cathode (J) or anode (G), creating an indentation on the cathode surface or anode surface.
