PURPOSE: An improved structure for opening and closing the ashtray of a motor vehicle is provided to reduce producing cost and to prevent the recess of the ashtray while opening and closing an ashtray case in the ashtray installed in the fascia panel side of the motor vehicle. CONSTITUTION: When an ashtray case(60) is inserted to an ashtray cover(50), pushing sills(52A) installed in elastic pieces(52) are attached on the wall surface of a guide groove(62) of the ashtray case. Herein, the elastic pieces are arranged on the both sides of the ashtray cover. Then, the ashtray cover is not easily withdrawn by the mutual hanging operation of the pushing sills of the cover side and removing projection units(62A) of the ashtray case, unless a user withdraws the ashtray forcibly. Therefore, when the ashtray case is pulled, the ashtray case is withdrawn along a guide groove(62) of the ashtray cover without recess. Herein, if the ashtray is withdrawn, the ashtray case is opened from the ashtray cover without recess by the pushing sills and the removing projection units go across while getting on mutually.
