The machine for changing either the tools or the workpieces in a machine tool includes a linear robot arm, animated to provided reciprocal movement. The arm includes provision to retain the component being moved during the linear movement. There is also a magazine which holds all the items to be used in turn - either tools or workpieces which are to be fitted to the working machine head. The magazine may be a ring shape surrounding the work station. A digital control system is provided for both the magazine and the robot arm to enable their operation in sync., along with the clamping device to retain objects in transit.
