SWITCH CELL FOR CROSSBAR MATRIX ATM SWITCHES

PURPOSE: A switch cell for crossbar matrix ATM switches is provided to eliminate the fanout, transmission distance and connection problems of a switch element input port and the arbitration and connection problems between switch element output ports, to easily install switch boards and to simplify wiring. CONSTITUTION: Each switch cell connecting each of the input and output ports in a crossbar matrix ATM N x N switch is composed of a switch element(100), a repeater(201), an output FIFO(202), and a multiplexer(203). The switch element(100) processes a m x m capacity. The repeater(201) is an input ATM cell driving unit between right and left switch cells. The output FIFO(202) stores an ATM cell transmitted from an upper switch cell. The multiplexer(203) multiplexes the output ATM cell of the switch element(100) and the output ATM cell of the output FIFO(202) and transmits them to a lower switch cell.
