A chair 1 with seat 2 and backrest 3 has a mounting 12 in which are mounted two transverse cross-members 6 and 7. These cross-members are connected to actuating levers 8 and 9, moved by servomotors within the mounting and control levers 10 and 11. The control levers are attached directly or indirectly by means of further levers 14 and 15 to a standing foot 5. Movement of one or both of the actuating levers, cause the associated control levers to lower one or both ends of the standing foot and simultaneously to lift either or both ends of the seat 1 away from the floor. In an alternative embodiment the mounting (121) is attached to a frame. The chair body with seat (21) and backrest (31) is coupled to and mounted on the frame by a similar arrangement of levers to that described above. Movement of the actuating levers causes movement of either or both ends of the chair body away from the frame, which remains stationary against the floor. |
