The positioner for at least one cylinder (7) in a printer incorporates a holder (6) in which the cylinder is rotarily mounted. The positioner together with the holder forms a unit (50) adjustable in different positions (54,55). The unit or the holder is moved along a first direction of movement by a gear (25-28). The unit on the guide (18,19) is moved along a second direction of movement. The unit is moved by the guide from a non-operating (55) to an operating (62) position in which the cylinder cooperates with a cylinder (4) conveying printed matter.
