At least one information volume, e.g. set of files, is recorded in a track on an inscribable record carrier, e.g. CD-WO. For each volume, control information for the reading operation plus a lead out signal denoting the end of the information volume are also recorded. The lead out signal includes reference information w.r.t. addresses of information in the volumes. The control information is included in at least the lead out signal. Preferably, control information in the lead out signal comprises address information for all previous volumes. A control file not in the lead out signal may then contain read control information. The reference information in each lead out signal contains Tables of Contents of all previous information volumes.
