A methanation activity measuring instrument comprising a pressure vessel (4) to which a cover (3) is detachably fixed, a carbon dioxide absorption container (6) held removably in the pressure vessel (4), a thermostatted water tank (7) detachably accommodating the pressure vessel (4), a pressure-electricity conversion type pressure sensor (8) connected to a recorder (5) and fixed to the cover (3), a carbon dioxide absorption container supporting member and a generated gas pipe (16) fixed to the outer and inner bottom surfaces respectively of the carbon dioxide absorption container (6), and a gas phase substituting valve carrying ventilation pipe (12) fixed to the cover (3) for the pressure vessel (4).
