PURPOSE: A method for detecting a trunk signal in a satellite communication system is provided to easily discriminate a difference of inter-trunk signaling methods by detecting a trunk signal between two PSTN systems in an initial interface and informing an operator of it. CONSTITUTION: If a trunk trace and detection command is inputted from an operator, a network management system outputs this command to a network control unit(ST1). A processor of the network control unit sets the operation state information of a state information storage part as trunk signal trace and detection mode data(ST2). The processor allocates signal transmit-receive buffers to execute the trunk trace and detection(ST3). If a called subscriber s telephone number is inputted from the network management system(ST4), the processor sends the called subscriber number to an exchange after storing it in one of the allocated buffers, or a transmitting signal storage part(ST5). Then the processor stores a response signal transmitted from the exchange in the other allocated buffer, or a received signal storage part(ST6). If the response signal is completely received(ST7), the processor sends the transmitting and received signals stored in the transmitting and received signal storage parts to the network management system. The network management system outputs the signals through the operator monitor(ST8).
