<p>A process for preparing optically active diols represented by general formula (II), wherein R<1> represents (CH2)n (wherein n is an integer of 1 to 4), CH=CH, O, S or NH; R<2> represents hydrogen, C1-6 -alkyl, C1-6 -alkoxy, (C1-6 -alkoxy)carbonyl, hydroxy, carboxy, halogeno, nitro or amino, characterized by treating a compound represented by general formula (I), wherein R<1> and R<2> are each as defined above with a microorganism belonging to the genus Rhodococcus, Bacillus, Brevibacterium , or Gordona and having a capability of stereoselectively converting a double bond of ring A into a single bond having vicinal hydroxyl groups, or a culture or optionally treated cells of Mortierella vinacea.</p> |
