PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a reclining function and a function obtaining its reaction force by a single configuration without using a gas spring. SOLUTION: This reclining device of a chair is provided with a shaft 13 inserted and supported slidably in the direction of width on a back frame 5, a plurality of cam plates 14 which also serve as a friction plate, whose base part is supported on a receive base 1 so as to tilt freely, and which has a circular arc cam hole 17 through which the shaft 13 is inserted, a washer which is positioned between these cam plates and is fitted and inserted in the shaft 13, an energizing means 22 which spring-energizes the shaft 13 in the axial direction to bring the cam plate 14 into pressure-contact with a fixation member side and fix the back frame 5 at an arbitrary angle, and a fixation release mechanism 23 sliding the shaft 13 against spring energization to release a fixation condition. It is provided with an elastic body 31 which is provided on the receive base 1, is compressed by a pressing part 29 provided along a side face in the direction of tilting of the cam plate 14, and gives the cushion property to the back frame 5 at the time of reclining.
