PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical fiber wire, capable of making an optical fiber having low polarization dispersion characteristics by providing the optical fiber with an optimum twist even with rise in wire drawing speed and limiting the variations of the wire diameter of the optical fiber and the outer diameter of the optical fiber wire in the longer direction to small values. SOLUTION: In this method for producing an optical fiber wire by heating and softening an optical fiber preform, drawing an optical fiber downward, subjecting the optical fiber to wire drawing, coating the optical fiber and producing an optical fiber wire 11 while twisting the optical fiber around an axis by a periodically rocking guide roller 13, the wire drawing speed of the optical fiber is >=250 m/minute, the rocking amplitude of a roller surface 13a in which the optical fiber wire 11 is firstly brought into contact with the rocking guide roller 13 is <=±7 mm and >=±0.5 mm in the vertical direction based on the vertical axis and the optical fiber is twisted. |
