<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the protruding stroke of an air bag for a front passenger seat, enhance the characteristics at the time of inflating in proximity, and reduce the manufacturing costs. SOLUTION: An air bag 1 is equipped with an opposing spreading part 21 to be inflated flat widely and a cylindrical spreading part 22. The opposing spreading part 21 is partitioned in two layers by an intermediate base cloth 33 furnished with a communication part 41 into a first compartment 35 and a second compartment 36. The forefront of the cylindrical spreading part 22 is connected with a gas lead-in hole 38 in the opposing spreading part 21, while the base end is attached to a retainer fixed to an instrument panel. The central part of the base cloth 33 is coupled to the instrument panel side by a coupling member 23 arranged inside the cylindrical spreading part 22. The cylindrical spreading part 22 and the first compartment 35 are quickly inflated by the gas spouted from an inflator, and then the second compartment 36 is inflated.</p> |
