PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the function by arranging a plurality of grooves to be linearly arranged on both upper and lower surfaces so as to overlap each other in a plan view, and forming an elastic thin film part between bottoms of the upper and lower grooves. SOLUTION: This facing material is arranged on the joint body of an expansion joint for connecting a base isolation structure to the ground. A facing material 2b comprises, for example, a rubber-made lengthy body 20b with a plurality of grooves M1, M2 intermittently and linearly arranged on the upper and lower surfaces thereof so as to overlap each other in a plan view, and a thin film part 21b provided between the grooves M1, M2 for preventing the penetration of rainwater into the joint body. Since the facing material has high withstand load because of the load-receiving area larger than in a conventional one, thus allowing to minimize the arrangement pitch in the cross direction of the surface material of the grooves M1, M2, the compressibility can be increased. Namely, the facing material is never swollen upward by a small compression quantity because of the high withstand load. Accordingly, floating of the joint body can be prevented.
