PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a gasoline with a low sulfur content by which the value of the whole gasoline fraction containing the sulfur can be raised, the contents of the whole sulfur and mercaptans can be reduced from the above gasoline fraction to ultralow levels without accompanying the substantial lowering of the gasoline yield and, on the other hand, the deterioration of octane number can be minimized. SOLUTION: This method comprises the separation of a gasoline containing sulfur into a light fraction and a heavy fraction. Furthermore, the method comprises the separation in which the cut point is selected so as to maximize the olefin content in the light fraction, hydrodesulfurization of the light fraction on a catalyst based on nickel, hydrodesulfurization of the heavy fraction on a catalyst containing at least one metal of group VIII and/or at least one metal of group VIb and mixing of the desulfurized fractions. |
