PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance serviceability by simplifying user's operations when recording paper of the size that is not loaded in a cassette is selected automatically. SOLUTION: The size of documents set in a reading part 14 is detected by a document size sensor 15 and the size of recording paper is determined from the document size detected and magnification set by means of a control part 13. If the recording paper of the size determined is not loaded in the cassette 18 of a recording part 16, a manual feed tray 17 is selected automatically and the setting of the recording paper of the size determined in the manual feed tray 17 is indicated on an indicating part 12. When the user indicates the start of copying and the recording paper is set in the manual feed tray 17, copying is performed using the recording paper. If the recording paper is not set in the manual feed tray 17, copying is performed using recording paper of size that is as close to the determined size in the cassette 18 as possible.
