PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer a and a printing method whereby a decrease in print quality is suppressed at the time of high-speed printing carried out at high speed in comparison to standard printing according to original data. SOLUTION: A dot impact printer projects a head pin 107 from a print head 106 thereby forming and printing dots to a recording paper. This printer apparatus has a dot pattern recognition part 102 which checks dot data included in supplied original data and judges whether or not continuous dots to be printed continuously are included in the dot data and, printing control means (103, 104 and 105) for extending a project time of the head pin 107 when a dot pattern including continuous dots is to be printed as compared with the case where a dot pattern not including continuous dots is to be printed.
