PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high impact absorbing performance by arranging a rod-like lever body on a device body with the axial line of the rod-like lever body being crossed to the impact force acting direction so that the rod-like lever body is bent at the edge of a shifting gate by the impact force acting on a shift lever. SOLUTION: A shift lever 7 comprises a steel-made rod-like lever body 12 and a synthetic resin-made operation knob 13 provided at the tip thereof. The impact force F by the head of a driver according to a front collision of a passenger car acts on the operation knob 13 obliquely from upper behind. The rod-like lever body 12 is arranged on a device body 6 with the axial line (a) being crossed to the impact force acting direction (b) so as to generate a bending directional partial force on the basis of the impact force F. The rod-like lever body 12 on which the impact force F acts is then bent clockwise with an edge part 25 in a shifting gate 14 as the fulcrum. The impact absorbing stroke is relatively extended, and the impact absorbing performance is thus enhanced.
