PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a corrosion inhibitor capable of exhibiting excellent corrosion inhibiting effect on Al or Al alloy powder even in a water base medium such as a water base coating material without using an organic substance like the case of the conventional chromate treatment, to provide a corrosion inhibiting method and furthermore to provide an Al powder-contg. coating material in which this corrosion inhibitor is effectively made use of. SOLUTION: This corrosion inhibitor for Al or Al alloy powder contains a polyhydric phenol derivative, preferably a gallic ester shown by the formula (R denotes a 1-20C alkyl group) as an effective component. Moreover, the Al powder-contg. coating material inhibits the corrosion of Al or Al alloy powder by being blended with the corrosion inhibitor.
