PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a pattern having a three-dimensional effect on the surface of a tray, a teacup, a saucer, a nest of boxes, chopsticks, and the like to obtain a means for increasing an aesthetic value or commercial value thereof. SOLUTION: Aluminum powder is mixed with two pack urethane resin liquid containing dyestuff to prepare a first paint composition, and on the other hand, aluminum powder of 5 to 20 wt.% of the aluminum powder contained in the first paint composition is mixed with resin liquid of the same composition as that of the two pack urethane resin liquid to prepare a second paint composition. And the first paint composition is applied onto the surface of material to be coated, and while a coating layer 3 thereof is not dried, the second paint composition is sprayed in droplets. The formed coating film 4 is colored transparent or colored semitransparent, and light is complicatedly reflected by the aluminum powder unevenly dispersed in the coating film to provide a spotted pattern having three-dimensional effect.
