PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart excellent pigment characteristics and dispersibility without an additional conditioning step by conditioning an organic pigment by means of a step-by-step salt crushing method using a non-solvent liquid anal subsequent ly an alkanoic acid. SOLUTION: In the method for conditioning an organic pigment, at first, a crude organic pigment is crushed at a temperature of 0-100 deg.C in the presence of 1-10 pts.wt., based on the organic pigment, of an inorganic salt and 1-5 pts.wt., based on the organic pigment, of a liquid in which the organic pigment and the salt are substantially insoluble to form pigment paste. Subsequently, this pigment paste is crushed at a temperature of 0-100 deg.C in the presence of 0.05-1 pt.wt. of, based on the organic pigment, of an 8-10C alkanoic acid to give treated pigment paste. Then, this treated pigment paste is stirred with water or with water containing an acid and/or an organic liquid to complete the conditioning of the organic pigment. Finally, this conditioned organic pigment is isolated.
