PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject excellent composition usable in e.g. cosmetics, exhibiting high antimicrobial effect against microbes living in the human skin and causing dermatoses while inert to the humans, etc., for example, capable of preventing, improving or curing esp. acnes (pimples), in general skin eruptions caused by the interaction of acne bacteria with excessive sebum secreted from the skin and putrefied products thereof through restraining the growth of acne bacteria or by the aid of the germicidal power of the composition against acne bacteria, and good in feeling when used without deteriorating the cosmetics and the like formulated therewith, therefore usable in antimicrobial cosmetics or preparations for external use for the skin intended for dealing with acnes. SOLUTION: This composition comprises specific metal (Ca and Mg) hydroxide(s) and/or oxide(s) and/or compound oxide(s) thereof. This composition is highly safe, having no adverse effect on animals including humans per se despite having high antimicrobial action against microbes causing dermatoses in animals including humans, in particular acne bacteria, causing no deterioration of the cosmetics or preparations for external use for skin formulated therewith, and being good in feeling when applied without being subjected to any limitation of the quantity to be used.
