The invention relates to a device for transporting a support element (16) presenting a plurality of sample cavities, notably a titration plate, to and between storage and/or processing stations. The device comprises a notably linearly operating transporting unit (10) which connects a positioning and/or storage unit with at least one processing station and serves to transport the support element (16). The processing station (20, 22, 24) is configured such that it can be fitted in a modular manner with at least one functional unit for carrying out an automated processing function acting on the support element or the sample cavities thereof. For transferring a support element from the transporting unit to the functional unit the processing station comprises at least one pivoting device having a rotating plate or rotating arm. The pivoting device is configured in such a way that in response to an electronic control signal a support element held by the pivoting device pivots about an axis of rotation at a defined angle and by displacement can be transferred from the pivoting device to a neighbouring unit.
