PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating composition having chemical resistance, mechanical strength and photocatalytic activities and excellent in coatability by highly dispersing an inorganic oxide in an aqueous photocatalyst dispersion sol. SOLUTION: As an aqueous dispersion sol of a photocatalyst is employed a TiO2 sol. An inorganic oxide added to the pbotocatalytic coating composition is the one easily soluble as a metal ion in water and examples thereof are ceria, zirconia, alumina, amorphous titanium oxide, tin oxide, magnesia, calcia, yttria, manganese oxide and the like. Addition of zirconia among others improves chemical resistance, photoactivity and water resistance. The inorganic oxide is highly dispersed preferably by adding a raw material thereof, as a metal ion, to an aqueous photocatalyst dispersion sol. Further, silica and/or a silicone with at least a part of its organic groups bonded to silicon atoms replaced by a hydroxy group is preferably incorporated into the photocatalytic coating composition.
