PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous steel casting method to allow selection of a wide range of taper which can maintain and improve the quality of cast metal, can prevent breakout, and can prolong the mold life. SOLUTION: In this continuous steel casting method, slabs are continuously cast under the condition of mold long-piece taper expressed by (mold top opening thickness - mold bottom opening thickness)/mold longpiece height×100 is 1.0-3.0%. The mold powder to be used has main components of CaO, SiO2, and Al2O3, and CaO/SiO2 weight ratio is within the range of 0.3-1.0, content of F, unavoidable impurity, is less than 1 weight %, viscosity at 1,400 deg.C is 4-20 poise, and crystallization temperature is absent or 1,000-1,200 deg.C.
