ONE-PACKAGE THERMOSETTING COATING COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a one-package coating composition improved in resistance to acid corrosion and chemical stability without detriment to the advantages of a one-package coating composition by mixing a compound containing a modified hydrazide group with an epoxy-containing compound and a basic catalyst. SOLUTION: An NH-NH2-terminated compound obtained by reacting a polyisocyanate having an average functionality of 1.5-6 with an excess of hydrazine is reacted with a chloroformic ester or monoisocyanate to obtain a compound containing modified hydrazide groups of the formula. This compound is mixed with a compound containing at least two epoxy groups and a basic catalyst in a ratio of the modified hydrazide groups to the epoxy groups of 2/1 to 1/4 by equivalent. In the formula, R is a residue derived by removing an isocyanate group from a monomeric polyisocyanate, a polyisocyanate adduct, or an NCO prepolymer; X is OR' or NHR' (wherein R' is a group inert to an isocyanate group under conditions for forming the compound of the formula); and n is 2-6.
