PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely purify a harmful material in exhaust gas regardless of an operating condition with a low cost constitution by arranging low temperature activating type catalysts capable of activating in a low temperature downstream a muffler disposed and separated from an internal combustion engine in an exhaust passage, and arranging an air supplying means for supplying air (secondary air) between catalysts. SOLUTION: An engine 10 is mounted on an engine room 2 of a vehicle 1, and an exhaust pipe 16 is extendedly arranged backward the vehicle 1 from an exhaust port through an exhaust manifold 12 and a catalytic converter rhodium 14. A muffler 24 as a noise eliminator is connected to the exhaust pipe 16 at a rear part of the vehicle 1, and a low temperature activating type catalytic converter rhodium 30 is connected downstream an exhaust direction. An electrically driven type air pump (an air supplying means) 40 is disposed so as to open between the muffler 24 of the exhaust pipe 16 and the catalytic converter rhodium 30. The air pump 40 is mounted, for example, in a trunk room 3, and is drivingly controlled by a driving command from an electronic control unit (an ECU) 50.
