PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an architectural structure member capable of stopping the propagation of brittle cracks within several tens mm for instance when these brittle cracks have arisen in the architectural structure member and preventing a brittle fracture of the whole sectional area within a range of plastic deformation expected in the design and also provide an architectural structure excellent in an arrest property. SOLUTION: A column material, a beam material, joint metal fittings, etc., are made of Ni-containing steel or steel with an ultra fine particle surface or the like excellent in an arrest property having 300 kgf/mm1.5 or larger in toughness value Kca at the lowest use temperature, and having a performance restraining cracks within 40 mm or smaller in length and 15 mm or smaller in depth in the propagation of the brittle cracks by a small-sized arrest tester.
