PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thick plate having arbitrary length and thickness and a coil stock having arbitrary thickness with a small-scale rolling equipment by providing a shear between a roughing mill and a finishing mill and on the side of the finishing mill and providing a rolled stock traversing device for taking out the rolled stock or for transferring the rolled stock to another line between the roughing mill and the shear. SOLUTION: A heating furnace 1 for heating a slab 14 to a required temperature, a roughing mill 2 for rough rolling the slab 14, a rolled stock traversing device 8 for traversing the rolled stock which is rough rolled to another line or to take out it, a flying shear 3 for shearing the rolled stock, a finishing mill 4 and down coiler 7 are provided for the hot rolling equipment and they are successively arranged from the upstream side on the same line. The flying shear 3 is provided between the roughing mill 2 and the finishing mill 4 and on the side of the finishing mill 4. In this way, it is not necessary to make the interval between edge tools of the shearing device large and the complication and large sizing of the shearing device are suppressed.
