PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely stop the operation in an abnormal condition in a vertical crusher so as to prevent the damage of a sweeper-fixture, the reducing of discharging capacity of crushed material and the decreasing of treating capacity, by detecting the abnormal conditions such as the breaking of a shear pin and the decreasing of the discharging capacity of a sweeper automatically immediately after their occurrence in the crusher by various kinds of detectors, in the vertical crusher for bulky refuse and resource refuse in the course of separating the recyclable material in a bulky refuse treating plant and a resource refuse cycle plant. SOLUTION: A pressure sensor 43 is installed on the required place of a casing 5b housing the sweeper of a vertical crusher 1 so as to measure a fluctuation in pressure on the inner wall surface of the casing 5b automatically in the course of operating the sweeper 4. A signal of the measured value of the pressure-fluctuation by the pressure sensor 43 is given as a wave form pattern and the pattern is compared with the preset wave form pattern in the course of the normal operation of the sweeper 4 so that a decrease in pressure caused by the abnormal condition of the sweeper 4 is detected and that the abnormality of the sweeper 4 is detected.
