MANUFACTURE OF STRIP OF FERRITIC STAINLESS STEEL AND STRIP OBTAINED BY THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical method for manufacturing the strip of ferritic stainless steel of AISI 430 and similar type by twin roll casting. SOLUTION: By directly solidifying liquid metal between two rolls having a horizontal axis which are adjacent each other and rotated in the opposite direction and whose interior is cooled, the strip of the ferritic stainless steel containing <=0.12% C, <=1% Mn, <=1% Si, <=0.040% P, <=0.030% S and 16-18% Cr is manufactured. The strip is cooled or allowed to cool so that the strip is not kept within the transformation range of austenite to ferrite and carbide, and coiled at 600 deg.C to martensite transformation temp. Ms, the coiled strip is allowed to cool from 200 deg.C down to the ambient temp. at the max. rate of 300 deg.C/h and, next, box annealing is applied to the strip.
