PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To redistribute a residue containing concentrated alkyl.silalkylene by contacting it with a specific halosilane. SOLUTION: A residue containing concentrated alkyl.silalkylene is contacted with a halosilane selected from a group consisting of an alkyltrihalosilane and a tetrahalosilane in the presence of an effective quantity of a redistribution catalyst at 150-500 deg.C so as to form a redistribution reaction product comprising a dialkyldihalosilane. At least part of the above catalyst is formed by a direct method or in situ during the isolation of an obtained monosilane.
