PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for surely separately feeding each pair of sheet material from a stack of sheet material piled up with their edges aligned. SOLUTION: This sheet material separating feeder comprises a first suction device 3 operating to raise the end of sheet material 2a from a stack 1 of sheet material, a second suction device 4 operating to lift the end of sheet material 2b from the stack 1 of sheet material, and a sheet material receiver 5 and a gripper 6 which are inserted beneath the sheet material 2b having its end lifted. The end of the first sheet material 2a is raised by the first suction device 3 and the end of the second sheet material 2b is then lifted by the second suction device 4. After the sheet material receiver 5 is inserted beneath the ends of the second sheet materials 2a, 2b lifted, the suction of the first suction device 3 and the second suction device 4 is canceled to receive the overlapping ends of the two sheet materials 2a, 2b by means of the sheet material receiver 5 and to grip the two overlapping sheet materials 2a, 2b by means of the gripper 6 to feed them separately.
