PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting the abnormality of the take-up diameter of a bead former by which it is possible to detect the abnormality of the take-up diameter with high accuracy in a simple way. SOLUTION: In the method for detecting the abnormality of the take-up diameter of a bead former by which a bead wire 1 is taken up to the take-up diameter enlarged as specified, a touch roller 33 is brought into contact with the straight line part of the bead wire 1 to be supplied to the bead former, and the revolution of the touch roller 33 from the start of a take-up operation upto the end of taking up the bead wire 1 by the specified number of take-up revolution by the bead former, is measured by the roller 33. Further, the preset reference number of revolution is compared to the described revolution and the abnormality of the take-up diameter is detected based on the comparison results.
