PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject novel cosmetic that can effectively screen ultraviolet rays, has excellent transparency and can manifest healthy color without paling and no photocatalytic function, and provide ultraviolet-screening composition suitable for the cosmetic. SOLUTION: This cosmetic comprises a combination of phyllosilicates in clay minerals, particularly selected from vermiculite, smectite, clay mica and chlorite with an ultraviolet screening substance containing an ultraviolet screening substance, particularly a composition including the structure in which the ultraviolet screening substance is carried between the layers of plural layers of phyllosilicate salt. When the composition is used as a cosmetic, it can effectively screen the ultraviolet rays that are important as the cosmetic, shows excellent transparency, can impart the healthy skin color on the skin surface without paling the skin faces to poor blood color. In addition, these additives cause no surface activity, for example, photocatalytic action or the like.
