PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink composition for ink jet for shortening a drying time when printing is conducted with the ink composition on a non-porous gloss acceptor by comprising water, a pigment, a swelling clay, and a humectant containing a polyhydric alcohol or a cyclic compound containing nitrogen. SOLUTION: An ink composition for ink jet comprises water of 30-90 mass %, a pigment of 0.5-30 mass %, a swelling clay of 0.1-10 mass %, and 10-50 mass % of a humectant containing a polyhydric alcohol or a cyclic compound containing nitrogen. The swelling clay used may be a natural substance or a synthetic substance, and includes montmorillonite, bentonite, mordenite, vermiculite, magadite, smectite, laponite, beidellite or the like. The laponite has a structure represented by the formula. The polyhydric alcohol is ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, glycerol, or the like, and an example of the cyclic compound containing nitrogen is pyrrolidone, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone or 1,3-dimethyl-2- imidazolidinone. |
