PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop an inexpensive stabilizer capable of giving thermal stability, desired weather resistance and desired photostability to transparent halogenated polymers, especially transparent rigid polyvinyl chloride compositions. SOLUTION: This stabilizer for transparent halogenated polymers comprises (A) an organotin compound selected from the group consisting of an organotin compound, an organotin mercaptide, an organotin mercaptide sulfide, an organotin sulfide, an organotin carboxylate, and their mixtures, and (B) a sufficient amount of free phenyl salicylate exhibiting a synergistic action for the stabilization of transparent halogenated polymer compositions. The stabilizer composition can stabilize transparent halogenated polymers against their deterioration caused by heat, light and outdoor exposition.
