The tiles (1) are assembled into groups which then run through a second finishing station where further surfaces are polished without disturbing the formation of the groups. In a first finishing station the tiles are polished by radial grinding discs (6) which preferably engage in the cut faces of the tiles. The grinding discs are mounted on a common cutting shaft (7).
