The method provides a way of welding together two different types of steel forgings which are suitable for turbine rotor blades. The first forging is made of X12CrMoWVNbN1011 steel and the second forging is made of a low alloy 26NiCrMoV145 steel. The first forging is machined and a layer of weld metal is deposited on a surface, and is then heat treated. The weld metal is 12%CrNiMoCoV. The deposit is machined and the surface of the second forging is similarly machined. A butt joint is formed having a gap which is filled with a weld metal wire filler. A welding process is performed and the joint is heat treated to remove stresses and temper the area of the joint. |
