This invention is an apparatus, and a method for converting a conventional crew cap (10) into a tubular article (36) of outer wear. The crew cap includ es a flexible outer layer (12), a flexible inner layer (14) that together forms a crown portion (16), and an opened end (18). An opening is positioned on, and defined by either the inner layer (14) or outer layer (12). In a first use, the open end (28) of the inner layer (14) is adapted to be worn by a wearer such that the crown portion of the inner layer (14) covers the wearer's crow n. To convert the cap into tubular article of outer wear, the layer not containing the opening (28) is completely pulled through the opening to form a tubular article of outer wear having a first (38), and second (40) open end. The tubular article (36) is adaptable to be worn by the wearer as a headband (42) or neck warmer (36, 42).
