摘要 <p>The present invention relates to materials and coatings used for protecting various objects against severe thermal actions (unwanted overheating, flames, short-circuits, various radiation) that may result in fire or in the failure of devices, equipment, etc. The purpose of the present invention is to provide thermal protection coatings that ensure a substantial increase in the thermal protection duration of the materials in case of severe thermal actions. This invention provides a special and composite thermal-protection material-coating that comprises a porous matrix with open pores containing a hygroscopic substance. The porous matrix consists of inorganic oxides, carbonated sorbants, polymers, natural sorbants, porous metals, porous composites or mixtures thereof in which the open pores have a size of between 5 and 100 nm. The hygroscopic substance contained in the pores consists of inorganic salts or mixtures or solutions thereof having a humidity content higher than 6 water molecules per metallic ion in conditions where the ambient temperature varies between -10 and +50° C, where the pressure varies between 700 and 1500 kPa and where the air humidity is higher than 15 %. The inorganic salts may consist of halides, nitrates and sulfates of alkaline and alkaline-earth metals. This material can be press-formed or imbedded in another matrix using a binder.</p>
