[Also in Division B5] In pressure casting a pressure higher than atmospheric is produced in the feed reservoir and the mould, after which a desired difference in the pressures in the mould and reservoir is created so that the molten metal runs into the mould, the super-atmospheric pressure being maintained and acting on the molten metal until solidification is complete. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the pressure differential is created by inversion of the mould and reservoir assembly 1, 2, so that the metal enters the mould under the pressure of gravity. An additional differential may be created by appropriate adjustment of the cocks a, b, c. |
