METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR THE SEPARATION OF COMPONENTS FROM A BIOLOGICAL MATERIAL

This inventive method provides an essential improvement for the analysis of complex mixtures of heterogeneous components. The principle is based on a prefractionation of the mixture to be analyzed in accordance to the relative abundances of the individual components of the mixture. The following analysis of the mixture is performed in separated fractions, which contain components of same or similar abundance. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the components are proteins or peptides, which are analyzed in the field of proteomics. However an employment of the inventive method for a large variety of molecules including lipids, hydrocarbon-based molecules, and nucleic acids will be possible for those skilled in the art.
