A friction clutch, for use in a twin mass flywheel, comprises a pressure plate 11, a clutch cover 6, 106 and a diaphragm spring 7, 107 which is held in position on the cover 6, 106 by tabs 110 bent out from material of the cover 6, 106 around edges of recesses in the diaphragm spring 7, 107. The diaphragm spring 7, 107 pivots about bearing areas 108 so as to separate, aided by lift bars 15, the pressure plate 11 from a clutch plate. Lift bars 15 automatically lifts up the pressure plate 11 and have, at least under an action of a centrifugal force, a friction connection with a component, eg cover or pressure plate. To ensure a frictional connection between lift bars 15 and cover or pressure plate pretension may be provided and the lift bars 15 may be made of spring steel having a coating of a friction or sliding material, eg phosphate layer or hard nickel layer. |
